Magnificent response to our Call for Entry

Now the doors are closed on our Symposium 2011 call for submissions - or almost closed if anyone wants to slip in quickly - we on the ESi committee face the exciting challenge of selecting our shortlist of artists. Those shortlisted will be invited to visit the proposed site next month in Ellesmere to discuss project ideas.

2011 Call for sculptors

The ESi Committe are now finalising the artist's brief for 2011 Sculpture Event and will shortly make a call for entry. This year's event will be based in the woodlands around the Mere at Ellesmere and will make a new addition to the Sculpture Trail.

Artists will preferably be 'local' in order to participate in community events to be held around the town through the summer.

Watch our website http://www.ellesmeresculpture.co.uk/ for further updates and the publication of the brief.

All the recent snow has enhanced the sculptures around Ellesmere, especially on Castlefields. Even the Mere has been frozen over as a novel backdrop.
Just look at all the footprints leading to and from the sculpture in the photo - a clear demonstration of their popularity.

Students from Shrewsbury College visit the 2010 sculptures placed along the canal at Ellesmere after the second Ellesmere Sculpture Symposium.
The symposium of international artists was held in the British Waterways yard, once used by Thomas Telford in the construction of the Ellesmere canal running from Llangollen to the Mersey.
